They are a danger to swampy areas, and they put endangered animals in these wetlands at risk. In fact, they are so prolific that they are considered an invasive species. For example, during the 1980s, nutria rats went extinct in Scandinavian countries after a few hard winters. This frostbite can lead to them dying, and during the coldest winters, they can go extinct in local regions. Finding food is difficult, and they often get frostbite on their tails. Since they do not hibernate, winters are often hard for them. On the other hand, years with colder winters can help control the nutria rat population. But since winters are getting warmer, they are migrating more north than south. In the past, nutria rats have migrated north or south, depending on the severity of the winters. will be hospitable for nutria rats, even in the coldest parts of winter. The study showed that by the year 2050, nearly all of the states in the U.S. ![]() They may be expanding their range to include places such as the Atlantic, the Pacific Northwest, and the Mississippi Valley. Research in recent years has shown that as winters become milder, nutria rats have been moving northward in the United States. During cold parts of the year, they have been observed piling up to stay warm. While nutria rats do not hibernate in the winter, they do try to stay warm. But in the winter time, these plants die off when the weather turns cold. Usually, they will eat roots and shoots of young marsh plants, eating about 25 percent of their body weight every day. Generally, nutria rats are even more destructive in the winter because food is scarce, and they have to try harder to find food. Nutria rats do not hibernate in the winter, so you might see them all year round! In fact, a nutria rat’s peak reproductive season begins in the late winter, as well as in the early summer and middle of autumn. If you know you have nutria rats in your area, you should keep your dog on a leash. They may even need stitches after the fight. Because of their size and the fact that they fight by scratching and biting, domestic dogs can sometimes be injured after a run in with a nutria rat. Because nutrias are very territorial, they may fight with domestic dogs sometimes. It is common for nutria rats and small pets to fight, especially during the summer when they are most active. You and your pets should be careful if you come across nutria rats. They are also scared of humans, and if they feel trapped, they can show aggressive behaviors. While nutria rats sometimes run away if they feel threatened, they can also become aggressive if they feel threatened. Because they can get so big, you definitely want to be careful around them! Nutria can be up to 1.7 feet long and weigh up to 14 pounds. Laws vary depending on what state and city you live in, so you should always check those laws before taking action. If you want to sell the pelt of the nutria rat you killed, you will most likely need a special permit to do this. Once you have trapped the nutria, you should humanely dispose of it so it will not come back. Move carefully so you do not frighten the nutria away and place the trap nearby with a carrot or other vegetable as bait. You will need either a leg hold trap or a live double door trap. This is one of the best ways to eradicate nutria rats, especially if you can’t shoot them in your area. While some states, such as Oregon, allow you to shoot nutria on your own property at any time, other states may require you to get a permit before shooting. A bow and arrow are another option for safely shooting a nutria rat. This is a quick and easy solution if you have enough space to make firing a gun safe and if your county allows you to discharge a gun. If you see a nutria in your garden or yard, the fastest way to get rid of it is by shooting it. But what do you do if you just come across a nutria rat? There are a couple things you can do to take care of the problem right away, including shooting it and setting a trap. When you know you have nutria rats in the area, you can place baited poison around for the nutria to find and eat. Techniques for Getting Rid of Nutria Rats Read on to learn more about these rodents of unusual size. Nutria rats are not a native species to countries such as the United States and European countries, and you might be wondering what they’re even doing here in the first place. You can also set a trap for it and humanely dispose of it after it is in the trap. There are a couple of ways you can get rid of nutrias if you find one in your garden or crops, including shooting it with a gun or bow and arrow. If you have a garden or farm, you may know all too well that nutria rats love to eat crops such as corn, alfalfa, wheat, or sugarcane. One of the more invasive species, nutria rats are large rodents that can weigh up to 20 pounds and live near wetlands. ![]() 7/2/2023 0 Comments Japanese magic mirror![]() High level magical rituals are still performed in Buddhism and the common people still have vestiges of a dying magic culture, even into the start of the 20th century some families were segregated from communities because they were bewitched and cursed bloodlines. It must be recognized that magic did decline in Japan but it did not end. Personal magic, religious magic and shamanism was active right up until the 20th century and even into pre-WWII Japan. Pulling all these strands together, Antony has reformed the complex information with these brand new translations into a modern rendering, with stories and details that let a modern reader enter into the world of the forgotten legends of old Japan and the superstitions that color them, some of which still exist today. The Dark Side of Japan is illustrated with more than 100 images, some drawn from ancient scrolls, some photographs of contemporary Japan, some specially commissioned to explain some of the "hellish" concepts within-and remarkably hellish they are, too. Antony Cummins has also searched the now forgotten Victorian volumes on Japanese mythology and explains recent academic research on Japan for the non-expert. Most of the information comes from ancient documents, translated into English for the first time. The Dark Side of Japan is a collection of folktales, ritual black magic, protection spells, monsters, and other dark interpretations of life and death from Japanese folklore. However, the age of samurai at war was over by the 1600s and the land was under a single government, but even though war had all but finished, magic did not. Military study very much included the esoteric and the ritual, even if it was not put in to practice on the battlefield. (In the case of the Cincinnati Art Museum’s discovery, however, a second metal plate was likely soldered onto the back, leaving the original embossed Buddha concealed inside.By the year 1600, warfare changed and the Samurai did not depend as much on ‘magic’, but they did not fully forget their spells.Īccording to Cummins “large scale magical warfare had all but ended, with logic and practicality taking the lead in decisions made in combat, but ancient samurai schools did not forget their spells. For this reason, they are known in Chinese as “transparent” or “light-penetration” mirrors. When sunlight hits the reflective surface in a certain way, a hidden image – matching the design on the back – would be revealed, giving the illusion that light was passing right through the mirror. A mercury-based substance was then used to make additional surface stresses that were invisible to the naked eye but matched the elaborate patterns on the back, according to an article in the UNESCO Courier journal. Because the plate was of varying thickness, due to the embossed design, the process created very slight changes in curvature on the seemingly blank mirrored side. Scientists believe they then scratched and scraped the plain surface on the other side, before polishing it until it became reflective like a conventional mirror. ![]() To create the mysterious effect, artisans began by casting images, words or patterns onto one side of a bronze plate.
